bridge on the water

And where might you lie tonight?
How did you hide from this fight?
Calamity you went to die under
the bridge, to live in our water

Taking you back calamity
to a field of forgotten labour
Spring from the city meadow
You glowing tree of old numbers

Taking you back calamity
to the plunging views of hard waters
Jumping the wall is a minority
Of thoughts glazing fire in your papers

Taking you back calamity
to the early neon sign-posts
Drifting on the Thames
Searching for Dickens's lost trolley.
